At the Digital Laboratory Research Group (Chairman: Prof. Taro Hitosugi, University of Tokyo) held on October 16, 2023 at Suita Campus, Osaka University, our President Saito gave a presentation on the importance and role of measurement data management in automated experimental systems using robots.

WHEN IT COMES TO LABORATORY AUTOMATION, WE TEND TO FOCUS ON COOL HARDWARE WITH A STRONG VISUAL IMPACT. HOWEVER, EVEN TODAY WHEN EXPERIMENTS ARE CONDUCTED AT A HUMAN PACE, THE MANAGEMENT AND ORGANIZATION OF SAMPLES AND MEASUREMENT DATA IS NOTORIOUSLY DIFFICULT, AND HOW TO DEAL WITH THE DATA THAT CONTINUES TO BE GENERATED DURING LUNCH BREAKS AND AFTER RETURNING HOME IS ACTUALLY A THEME AS IMPORTANT AS THE TECHNOLOGY TO OPEN THE DOOR OF AN X-RAY DIFFRACTOMETER WITH A ROBOTIC ARM AND EXCHANGE SAMPLES.

In this presentation, we described the importance of data management in automated experiment systems and the automatic upload system to Randeft that we are providing on a trial basis to an automated experiment system under development at Ono Laboratory of Osaka University. Although it is still in the pilot stage, if you would like to know more about the details of the automatic uploader, please contact us using the inquiry form.
